Focus on Your Future Success

Sometimes when things aren’t going according to plan or the way that you would like them to be, it’s often because you have lost focus on what matters. Our busy, hectic lives combined with what is going on in the world around us, sometimes get in the way of what is truly important, and it may be difficult to stay focused. Daily routines, business, and family schedules tend to put us on cruise control while losing focus on what we should or shouldn’t be doing to keep us heading in the......

Time to Push the Reset Button

If we ever wanted a ‘do-over’ for our industry, this is it. Being classified as an essential business during COVID is giving us the chance to change the narrative of our industry. How we rise to the challenge is on us. Being able to set or reset the expectations for your profession isn’t something everyone is gifted. We need to take this opportunity and create the standards that will become our new normal. One area we need to address is the need for qualified employees. There is an enormous void that needs to be filled.......

Leadership Sustainability

Is leadership success sustainable? Riffing on my Comanche Marketing article titled “Authentic and Caring Leadership”, Steve Mores penned an insightful Comanche Marketing article himself titled “Leadership and Sustainability”. Steve mentions that my article reminded him of authentic and caring leaders who he both worked and works with. So I am going to return the volley and continue the conversation on leadership sustainability.  Steve introduces Currie Gauvreau’s expertise. Instead of motivating coworkers, Currie believes in inspiring them.  I think we should be focused on INSPIRING......

Leadership and Sustainability

As I was reading Dave Rathacker’s June Comanche Marketing article titled "Authentic and Caring Leadership", it brought to mind many of the people that I have worked with in the past and currently. Those that are authentic and caring leaders, as well as those that lead by threat and intimidation. These two styles of leadership can both get desired results, yet only the authentic and caring leader can get sustainable results.      Ironically, a week before Dave’s article, I had a conversation about this very subject with Currie Gauvreau,......

Don't Get Busy

As a Shark Tank TV show fan, I just finished reading Robert Herjavec's bestseller, The Will to Win. Throughout the book, Robert tells stories of his Shark Tank experiences, his love of family, his upbringing, and struggles as an immigrant to Canada when he was eight, and of course, business management - and his perspectives were fascinating. Primarily, the importance of thinking time. Rodney Koop, my business partner, and I are all too often saying to each other, "Schedule thinking time!" So, to read it in print by Robert…well, I......

Authentic and Caring Leadership

Earlier this year, I wrote a Comanche Marketing article titled “The Transformational Leader.” I spoke about John Maxwell’s leadership training organization and the problems its students experienced. Leaders who had undergone comprehensive leadership training were not making an impact. Maxwell’s leadership team asked, “What did we miss?”

After much discussion and debate, they arrived at this conclusion: The training they had done was educational but not transformational. By just giving leaders training, they do not automatically make an impact and do not automatically become transformational in......

Only Go Forward

Here it is, May of 2020. We are still in the middle of Pandemicville. Covid-19 has turned the world up-side-down…turned lives upside-down, and it is not over yet. So, Only Go Forward. We will get through it! There is no other choice. It cannot be wished away, a head in the sand approach accomplishes nothing, and getting angry at all the inconveniences is a waste of human energy. Think of something funny….laugh a little bit…laugh a whole lot. Only Go Forward. I was at a local grocery store. I witnessed a......

Choose High Profitability!

Anthony Iton is an African Canadian who moved to Baltimore in pursuit of a medical degree in 1985. Soon after arriving in Baltimore, he saw the blighted neighborhoods of East Baltimore. He said, “I thought somebody had dropped bombs on the place.” It was an experience and injustice that would drive his future.  Fast forward to the early 2000s. Iton, in addition to his medical degree, had accumulated a law degree, a graduate degree in public health, and taken the position of Public Health director for Alameda County in California. Motivated......
